[Dev] Xperia S Boot Manager v0.4, a real dual boot system

$
0
0
Hi All,

Here is a new version of my boot manager.

If you didn't see first release, its purpose is to allow dual boot a firmware with two different kernels with a third one that manages boot selection:

Here is a demo of the previous version, it behaves almost the same:

Since first release, I added cwmod support for both build:

First build is run from native partition, and second build is installled on internal storage via loopbacks. Since first release, I added automatic loobpack creation:

CWM will take care of formatting them.

FIRST A BIG WARNING: all you'll see here is highly experimental, I'm not responsible for any damage or problem it could cause.
I don't have any idea if running a build on loops is wearing off flash memory, it could damage your device.
I don't think it dramatically change anything compared to standard wear on native partitions, but who knows... And something else could go wrong.

Ok, I really should contribute to the community somehow :) So I decided to fix any little problem in my rom i'm currently using and release it, so people like me, that means people who like clean and tidy ROMs with some extra horsepower under the hood and few tweaks that increases usefulness of their device a bit will have their life a little bit easier because I'll try to implement as much awesomeness without unnecessary bloatware to this ROM and learn a bit about modding in the process :)

And I proudly present you PowerXperia ROM for Xperia S :)

It's based on official .45 ROM, with following changes:
Quote:

StatusBar toggles
Percentage battery mod
^ these two were one mod, p3001ee's statusbarmod with quickpanelsettings.

krabappel2548's XperiaSSpeed Kernel V6 with stock bootlogo and "Xperia" background in recovery

serajr's xperia s customizable home launcher

ROM is debloated and some handy apps are included :)
Known issues & TODO:
Quote:

- When lockscreen disabled and waking up phone with camera button, blank form appear that is canceled by any action. This is caused by Camera app.
- AROMA installer - honestly, i am aware that apps I use aren't apps that everyone want to use :)
Feel free to post suggestions/critic/bug reports/giving thanks etc. :)

Feel free to mirror, just let me know, ok?

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage caused to your phone. You are using this at your own risk, and if you are not willing to take it, do not proceed. Please read carefully all the information below, It's wise to prevent problems...

Installation process:
Quote:

This is currently standard recovery flashable ZIP file. If you do not have access to recovery you may want to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1793272 there are several ways how to boot into recovery, you may use any method, the recovery will be reflashed anyway. This rom also requires unlocked bootloader.

1) Place installation package anywhere on your internal card.
2) Boot into recovery (usually with pressing vol up button when prompted by kernel)
3) Select install zip from sdcard.
4) Select choose zip from sdcard
5) Find installation package on SD Card and confirm installation
6) Wait until updater finishes his job and wipe cache partition or (optional) perform hard reset.
7) Profit :)
First boot takes a lil bit longer, don't be scared :)

[Xperia S] [FIX] CM SMS 160 character limit patcher (v0.4 released 01-OCT-2012)

$
0
0
JunThis little tool should work on all CM9/10 builds so far and may work on other ROM releases based on FXP's CM.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED A PATCH FROM THE FIRST RELEASE MAKE SURE YOU REVERT BACK TO STOCK FRAMEWORK.JAR BEFORE USING v0.2

I have consolidated the two files into one batch file for both CM9 and CM10. You can choose between them when you start the batch file.

There are now two modes of operation. Simply running smsfix.bat will work as per the previous versions. The framework.jar will be pulled from your phone, modified
and then pushed back. You need JAVA runtime and ADB installed for this to work.

The second mode you can extract the framework.jar from your phone manually and drag the file onto the smsfix.bat (or run smsfix.bat and add the filename as a parameter) and it will make the necessary patches and provide you with a flashable zip that will be copied to your desktop.

This should keep us going until a real sms fix is released.

Let me know how you get on with this.

Release history

01 - Oct - 2012 - v0.4 - Added more heap space for java calls as the script fails with latest builds (fxp 140 onwards). Added more error checking to ensure it fails cleanly.
18 - Sep - 2012 - v0.3 - Consolidate to a single batch file for both CM9 and CM10 and added a flashable zip mode. The patch itself has not changed in this release so no need to update from previous versions.
14 - Sep - 2012 - v0.2 - Added version for CM10 too.
13 - Sep - 2012 - v0.2 - Should now work with messages of >2 parts - based on a Smali rough implementation of this fix (http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/22...alcommRIL.java)
11 - Sep - 2012 - v0.1 - very hacky fix that didnt work with >2 messages and was not thread safe.

Thanks to whooper90 for the adb remount and thanks to the Samsung CM dev team who did the fix that v0.2 is based upon.

Root MANY ANDROID! [Upd: 01.10.2012]

$

Hi,

i made a small script which is able to root ICS/JB phones. It uses a remount timing issue in Androids "adb restore" service.
So normally it should work on nearly all ICS/JB devices, for some it won't but the idea may work in a slightly modded version :)

There is a special case for Xperia T and Xperia S,P etc. phones, this phones run ICS but don't have android's native restore with adb, Sony has added a own custom "Backup&Restore" app, the script handles this cases too, just choose the correct option!

Have fun with it and if you like you can donate to me :)

How-To:
1.) Download attached file.
2.) Extract it using 7zip
3.) Double click the RunMe.bat and follow instructions!

Updates:
Updated to v2 windows&linux! (thanks kamistral for the Unix port :) )
Updated to v3 (no unix script included yet, sorry no time!) - Included Sony Tablet S mode :D thanks WonderEkin for helping me out there!
Updated to v4 - On many requests i added a unroot option
Updated to v5 - Other renamed to Normal, Xperia T integrated to Normal-Mode, adjusted wait-for-device time to atleast 10 seconds etc...
Updated to v6 - Made it even more simple :) Checks itself for Xperia S, P etc etc and switches modes automatically. So only 3 modes left: Normal, Tablet S and unroot.
Updated to v7 - Fixed some scripting errors & added some more output!
Updated to v8 - Fixed very very stupid scripting error!
Updated to v9 - Fixed another bug (thanks maxrfon) & Added automatic stat for Backup&Restore on special Sony devices like LT26,LT22 ...
Updated to v10 - Just updated Superuser app and su binary
Updated to v11 - Added sync to Special mode, thanks to smokey_joe
Updated to v12 - Added ric for Xperia T, device will not reboot anymore on system remount + Full Unix script (thanks codeworkx for port)
Updated to v13 - Fixed selfmade bugs -.-
Updated to v14 - Fixed several Unix bugs, added support for more devices with RIC, no more reboot issues on this devices after remounting system partition to RW
Updated to v14_2 - Just a fix for Unix SH script (thanks to shadyabhi)

Notice:
Normal Mode will not wipe any other data, dont worry!
Special Mode CAN wipe your data, Rollback SHOULD restore, but to be sure backup you data somehow!

Confirmed devices:
Sony Xperia : S, T, P , Acro S, Ion , Tipo , Tablet S, Go, Sola, U

[How To] Deodex ICS Strictly for Xperia S

$
0
0
Deodexed using DsiXda's Rom kitchen, so credit goes to DsiXda. :)

Do it at your own risk ! I'm just as NOOB as any on this forum. I just followed few topics and made this up.

I'm not responsible if your Xperia S gets bricked , because mine is working fine.

Follow steps correctly or else you get bootloops and you have to flash your rom again.

Your SXS must be rooted (with Locked Bootloader or Unlocked boot loader) on Stock ICS ROM 6.1.A.2.45 without any mods like toggles or reboot menus.

So i recommend to do this just after you flash & root your Stock ICS ROM 6.1.A.2.45.

Install Latest 'Busybox' from Andriod Market.

Make complete backup first.

Step1: Downloading & Copying files on to phone's internal storage

These are NOT and i repeat NOT flashable zips through recovery.

Extracting the below zips on your PC you get two folders namely done_app & done_frame.

Copy these two folders on to your Xperia S. (Please Do Not rename the folders)

Deodexed_app(146mb)

Deodexed_frame(24mb)

Step2:
Pushing them onto your phone. (Adopted from xUltimate method, credits to him :) )

You should have ADB correctly setup on your PC.

Turn on your Xperia S.

Enable Settings>Security>Unknown Sources.

Enable Settings>Developer Options>Usb Debugging.

Disable Xperia>Connectivity>Install PC Companinon.

Connect phone to your PC . Wait for PC to show up internal storage.

Go to 'platform-tools' folder in your adnroid-sdk folder, hold shift down and right click mouse, select 'Open Command window here' , You'll get a cmd window.

Enter the below code in the cmd window line by line

Code:

adb shell

su

stop

mount -o rw,remount /system/ /system/

cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/

rm /system/app/*.odex

cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/

rm /system/framework/*.odex

mount -o ro,remount /system/ /system/

reboot

After the phone reboots you'll have deodexed rom.

I also made 30 steps Volume mod i'll share it once deodexing works perfectly for you guys because it works only on deodexed roms. Have fun !

Well here is a Miui rom that I will be maintaining and adding to over the weeks.

I will be collecting a number of mods and adding them to the ROM as the new miui release comes out. Things will change with the ROM as we progress as I develop it I will add new stuff to customise it even more and make it stand out.

The name MessyMiui is because I am not really a developer more of a Messer, I love to mess and see what I can learn and make.

This Week:

Dolby Sound
Xperia Beats

Thanks
Knight47 Xperia Beats http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1734627
Miui
Miuiandroid for the base ROM

More tweaks planned for system, sound and picture tell me what other tweaks you would like and I will do my best to include them in my weekly releases

*I am not responsible if you brick your phone, drop you coffee or miss your morning alarm, I have only tried this on my phone and it has unlocked bootloader so not sure if works on locked bootloader*

Recommend

Xperia S Speed Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1761778

THE ROM download and drop on to SD, reboot into recovery and wipe and flash

MessyMiui 2.9.14 version1

At the minute there are no screen shots as it is the same as any other Miui but this will change

Xperia S CM10 Camera patch (not suitable for everyday use)

$
0
0
I have had some success in getting the camera working in CM10 by recompiling the kernel with PMEM support and including the libsurfaceslinger_client.so file from CM9. The kernel i have used is the latest from the cyanogen git repo so the patch should work fine with the FXP 140 release.

After applying the update zip file attached here you should be able to use the camera.

First time you go into the camera (either from the unlock screen or by pressing the camera button) you may get an error about there not being any external storage - after this the camera will exit. Try again and the camera should successfully load and be able to take photos.

I have not performed extensive testing on this so feel free to let me know how you get on. I am not 100% sure what the impact will be of reverting back to the pmem memory device instead of the new ion device.

Update: flashing this fix does have a big negative impact on gpu operations and will make your rom run badly. Probably not recommended for anyone to flash this patch at this stage but at least we have something that maybe myself out other devs can build upon

I've just taken delivery of a brand new Sony Xperia S which is locked to O2 UK and has the official 6.1.A.0.453 firmware installed on it. In the service configuration menu it says Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No. How do I go about unlocking the bootloader please? Many thanks in advance!

[GUIDE]Unlocking, Rooting, Adding CWM, Customizing XPERIA S 6.1.A.2.45 Stock ROM

$
0
0
Note: All the methods used here not belongs to me,
ALL CREDITS GOES TO ITS MAKERS
Here I am giving you some external threads and some guide lines explaining how to unlock, root, adding Recovery, Flashing Custom ROMS and How to unroot, locking bootloaders to get official OTA updates..
Lets start with usual warning, I'm not responsible if your Xperia S gets bricked

[UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER]

There is a great thread explaining how to unlock and relock bootloader by DooMLoRD, its very useful and I tested it and worked perfectly. Here is the link,
UNLOCKING AND RELOCKING BOOTLOADER XPERIA S
If you found its useful don't forget to thank him.

[ROOTING XPERIA S WITH 6.1.A.2.45]

Here I will give you two methods,

FIRST METHOD

This is for unlocked bootloader only and only for Xperia S LT26i. I have tested and working perfectly in my SXS
Warning: This is Exclusively for Xperia S with 6.1.A.2.45. I am not sure about other Other ROMS
Before Rooting you must have downloaded this,
1.Root Kit.zip (Zip containing everything you wanted to root)
2.Flashable SuperSU App (Thanks to Chainfire )

Inside the folder you have one .txt file its the commands you have to use in cmd, Any how I am adding the same below,

1.You must have enabled USB debugging in developer option under settings
2.Copy the "CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip" into your SD card
3.Switch off and connect your phone in fast boot mode (pressing Power button + Vol up)
If asked for drivers, update driver manually by directing to "USB driver folder" inside the "Root Kit folder".
Verify whether there is a BLUE LED is coming up.
Now you are in fastboot mode, type the commands line by line,

Quote:

fastboot devices
you will get something like this,
Quote:

PSDN: DW925S3BFT&POI fastboot
Now type this,

Quote:

fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img
you will be seeing this,
Quote:

sending 'boot' (5414 KB)...
(bootloader) USB download speed was 9847kB/s
OKAY [ 0.579s]
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Flash of partition 'boot' requested
(bootloader) S1 partID 0x00000003, block 0x00002000-0x0000bfff
(bootloader) Erase operation complete, 0 bad blocks encountered
(bootloader) Flashing...
(bootloader) Flash operation complete
OKAY [ 1.851s]
finished. total time: 2.432s
so the recovery image is flashed into the phone, now reboot device using below command,
Quote:

fastboot reboot
Now the phone will boot into recovery mode and select the option “Install zip from SDCard”. Browse to the folder where you had copied the SU zip file (CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip), select it and install it.

Now select the “Reboot System” option and while it is booting press the VOL UP button to boot back into the fastboot mode. Now run
Quote:

fastboot flash boot kernel.sin
You should see something like this
Quote:

sending 'boot' (5590 KB)...
(bootloader) USB download speed was 9588kB/s
OKAY [ 0.612s]
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Flash of partition 'boot' requested
(bootloader) S1 partID 0x00000003, block 0x00002000-0x0000bfff
(bootloader) Erase operation complete, 0 bad blocks encountered
(bootloader) Flashing...
(bootloader) Flash operation complete
OKAY [ 2.976s]
finished. total time: 3.589s
If its showing with "Okay and Finished", then you are done, Congrats now you have a rooted phone (check for SuperSU app inside the phone drawer):D
Note:
1.If you can't enter into fastmode after image flashing (sometimes you need to have a better timing to enter into flashmode during reboot by pressing vol up and power button), then do this,
Press power and volume up button till u get a vibration followed by three vibrations (now your phone is switched off, so you can enter into fastboot normally) IMPORTANT: Dont remove the usb cable ever till rooting finishes
2.If any step fails after flashing recovery image you can't able to enter into your phone, don't be panic we have solution for everything.
Flashing stock rom with flashtool will solve this issue.

SECOND METHOD

Follow thread here,
Root with Recovery by Bin4ry
Note:
It's the easiest method, but every time i tried, i am doing it wrongly, but you can use this as well for rooting.Don't forget to thank Bin4ry

[ClockWorkMod Recovery]
If you want to know "why recovery is need?" go through some search .

For stock Roms
Just download this and enjoy recovery.
RecoverX by LEDelete. Don't forget to thank him.

[Flashing Custom ROMs]

You will get a variety of Custom ROMs available for XSX, choose what you are in need of, am here adding some Custom ROMs and there respective links (but its not the end, there are many more search it)
